Above the Pacific

Finally finished up the anthro corsair! He's done in a slightly different style that the P-51 I did, but I like to vary stuff.

Corsairs are just awesome though, they're probably best described as an engine with a plane. They used a massive Pratt&Whitney engine with nearly 3,000 hp in some versions. In contrast, most WWII fighters had less than 2,000 hp. The engine and propeller were so huge the corsair was given it's distinctive bent wing shape to position the landing gear far enough down so the prop wouldn't scrape the ground. The pilot also sat so far back they could barely see when landing. I tried to reflect this by making the corsair/person massively beefy. Don't mess with him okay?

Originally I wanted to make the navy version, with a white underside. But I eventually decided to go with the deep blue marine version. Sorry navy, but the marines just had a better color scheme.

Im still trying to think of a name for these weird plane people. Most people tend to associate anthros with animal people. So far all I've come up with is were-planes (sounds like airplanes). But that honestly sounds a little silly; when the moon is full you can hear the distant howls of the were-plane "VROOOoooom-VROOOoooom!"

I also can't shake the thought that this guy looks like the incredible hulk. Except blue. "RAARRGH CORSAIR SMASH PUNY ZEROES."

I hope to make a zero-sen (a japanese fighter) dogfighting this guy. Those were pretty neat looking planes. If I'm able to I'll also try to make a separate picture with a spitfire fighting either a FW-190 or an ME-109.

Done in Photoshop 6.0 with tablet. I used a pencil sketch to lay out the characters first and then scanned it in. This probably took about 15 hours over four days. I tried a few new techniques with this picture, and some worked out. I still have alot to learn about digital art (actually, I've got a lot to learn about art in general, but who doesn't?).
