Well, this is one of those pictures I've been working on so long I can't tell up from down. Hopefully it came out well, but some of the clouds worry me and I wonder if this would look better at a smaller size.
I do however like the jet. It was supposed to be some futuristic carrier fighter but ended up looking like a stealthy F-14 with canards. But F-14's are awesome so I'm fine with that. I imagine that the drop tanks at the sides are on hardpoints that retract inside when the tanks are dropped. They'd be really obvious to radar so the jet would drop them at the first sign of combat, or not have them attached at all for shorter missions. Maybe it has nice pulse detonation engines too. And supercavitating torpedoes (supersonic torpedoes = awesome).
The clouds were inspired by massive thunderheads that appeared over my school one day. I managed to make some quick sketches and used them here. They were really ominous and made me feel really small. I like large clouds. I hope the clouds don't look too fake.
Urgh. Realism tires me out, though it is exciting once done. I'm going to make some nice happy ink monsters now.
I'm expecting that there will be lots of changes to make to this picture, so feel free to critique.
