Downtown Fight: Final Inks by turbofanatic Downtown Fight: Final Inks by turbofanatic
It is complete! At least the inks anyway. I'll probably do some light washes and computer coloring later.

This happened to be an older picture that I always liked, but never had the talent to make a background for. A little while ago I was flipping through my notebook and decided it would be a fun picture to finish, so here it is. It is old so Nathaniel (the little guy) doesn't have his distinctive tentacles and hooks, as much as I wanted to update him I don't think it would have worked compositionally to have all those tendrils flying about. At least not in the way it was originally set up.

The large creature was an experimental disaster. All the chimeras (Nathaniel included) teeter on the fine line between having regenerative cells, and rampant cancer. Most of them are literally highly differentied benign tumors. The cells readily divide and have no limit on division but are held in check by each other. Salamanders have such an ability, when they regrow legs it is actually highly controlled cancer (google search for tons of interesting info!). The big monster, named the whore of babylon for its similarilty to a biblical monster, does not regulate its growth. It randomly grows mouths and limbs, and sometimes "buds" a whole new monster. It goes on a rampage and Nathaniel and a mob armed with molotov cocktails finally subdues it.

Done in Various Micron pens.

Just one minor point...

In order to symbolize the rapid growth of its cells, give the monster in this picture some large, blobby-looking growths and fleshy tumor-like protrusions so that it looks like a walking cancerous mass.

What exotic amounts of detail, I envy people who can realise their minds eye on paper to such extraordinary levels. Truly well done.

Really, just wow. Your lines are incredible, and I love the way you've conveyed the stresses in the stance.

This is really amazing, and I LOVE it in Black and White.

oh.....mygod......:worship:......that is long did it take you to finish that? (work time, not all together)....i love the shading....very very good.....i'd love to give it a more intelligent critique than that, but i'm at a loss for words....keep up the good work :D

I'm not exactly sure how long it took to make, the original sketch was done years ago and about a month ago I started the final sketch and inking. I'd estimate the actual work time at about 15 hours.

I think this turned out very well, congrats! I should try messing with Micron pens sometime...

Btw, don't worry about doing my pic...I know how school can be. Although it's making me think I need to change my avatar whenever I see that random face in the middle of your journals :P

Thanks! Micron pens are awesome, they produce excellent thin lines. Their small size makes them shakey, but when a picture involves many short strokes it doesn't matter. That's why I use them so much.

Yeah, school can be a pain at times. I wanted to do another kestrel picture (I was really happy when you metioned that) anyways and I'll get to it soon.

I'll stop using your avatar if it bothers you :P. I kinda like it though, bold and simple, a good attention getter. I went for the "spinning hypno wheel of doom" icon tactic.

It doesn't bother me, per se. More like...astounds me with its...randomness.

Barly ever seen details that great drawin using pencil
WWOOOHHH now that is one freaky ass looking looks like some thing out of the game and movie The Thing
infact that thing is alot simular to the thing beasts as they are called in the game The thing who also happen to grow mouths and limbs continuasly as well as they also grow other monsters from ther bodys. the only diffrence is that the Thing beasts are just a bunch of cancer like cells with there own mind who turn into what ever twisted form they want as long as they make it simualr to what they spawned from (wolf, human, bear ect...)
was that realy all dont in pencil

Hehe, I never could watch The Thing, it was always too scary for me. Maybe I'll force myself to see it at some point.

The picture was actually done in pen. I use Sakura Micron pens with varying tip sizes. Pencils can't quite make the thin black lines as well as pens do.

You at Micron pens.

Oh my goodness! I can't believe I've won!
I'd like to thank all the little micron pens I've sacrificed to get here!

I killed off four so far .

This looks so good. I love the look of black and white, but I believe this inking would look wonderful in color.
turbofanatic Featured By Owner Nov 29, 2005  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Thank you! I'll try to get it done in color soon.
