My entry for the conceptart.org thunderdome competition. The theme was "Demon Prince."
Since the theme was so open ended I decided to use this as an excuse to hone some skills I've been lacking in. Namely, storytelling, foregrounds and backgrounds, and scenery. I hope to draw a comic one day so I'd better practice these skills.
Here's a little bit of background story:
Hell is not a nice place to visit. There are seas covered in frigid ice and there are fields where lava flows like rivers. There are no temperate areas and very few natural resources. Demons recycle everthing they can, they turn the skin of enemies into leather and use bones as weapons. Demon royals rule over thier territory with iron fists, squabbling and fighting over more land and power. There is little luxury and everything a demon owns is wearable, otherwise it is useless as Hell's eternal upheavals destroy whatever cannot be moved.
Here, a powerful demon prince has silenced a young upstart who questioned his rule. He will be cannibalized and his skin turned to leather armor. No grave will mark him and no tears will be shed. This is Hell after all.
Done in various pens. I was trying out a more "comic-book" shading style.
