Description

The flexible black robots are often called Hangdogs, however they absolutely do not refer to themselves by that name. Each robot’s name is a poem of sorts, and is changed whenever they feel appropriate. The Hangdogs actually have a poor understanding of most languages as humans use them, and rely on their smartguns or hives for translation. They were intentionally built this way by the hives because most sanity complexed AIs had already mastered human manipulation via language and the nearly non-narrative poetry Hangdogs require was harder to hijack.

Part of the Hangdog’s success is due to how easily they can compact themselves, partly seen in the first panel here. They’re also capable of explosive bursts of energy, using braided and twisted carbon nanotubes as both muscle and battery. The fact that energy is stored throughout their entire body means that parts are swapped in and out for repair or mission changes easily. Their backs can also splay open for cooling and to use chemical sniffers to gather data.

The Shrikes are pretty much just big engines and big wings, like a proper fighter ought to be. The black nose is probably a laser, but I stole the look from F-4 Phantoms.

Lucky Lady is the name of the gun, I think the robots all have Shakespearean names. The railguns/axes get names because they’re smarter than most people. The other railguns here are named Pretty Boy and Lil’ Slugger. Sometimes they switch logos though, because any habits they have could be picked up on by enemy AIs. Their world is confusing like that.

I absolutely cannot wait to see what final form this world takes.
